There are hundreds of options available when it comes to dental floss. But how do you know which one is the best? And once you get the right floss, what’s the proper way to floss your teeth?
Flossing is a vital part of good dental hygiene… but it’s a part most people skip. Even if you floss regularly, you could be one of the millions of people that don’t floss correctly or simply use the wrong floss.
Check out our video below for a quick lesson on proper flossing technique and our dental floss product recommendation (I recommend POH Percept NoWax Micro Thin Dental Floss. The video also includes a quick product review of Percept Micro Thin Dental Floss).
Enjoy!
Dr. Marvin
PS: Precept Floss is available in many stores and online. We also sell it in our web store: Purchase Percept Micro Thin Dental Floss.
PPS: The reason we sell this floss? It’s what I use at home, it’s what my employees use, and it’s what my patients use. It’s great floss! The black color allows you the see the plaque that’s removed and the wax-free surface helps it clean your teeth and gums better than waxed versions. It also has a slight tendency to fray, but not break, and the fraying actually provides an even better cleaning action. Check it out… you’ll never use another floss again!

If you can write more articles such as this, I
would be actually glad. Anyway, thank you so much!
You actually make it seem so easy with your presentation but I to find this topic to be really something that I feel I might never understand. It sort of feels too complicated and very vast for me. I’m looking ahead to your next publish, I will try to get the cling of it!
Great video. Excellent really.
However, after I put the floss in the cart I was prompted to give my information before I could determine the shipping cost. Seriously. Why do businesses do that? Do you think I’m guileless? I’m afraid you do. If you think doing so gives you an advantage over the average customer I could only say shame. Unfortunately it still shouldn’t be worth it because anyone with a milligram worth of guile will back out of the purchase and never buy anything on that site again, ever. I’ve done that to 100s of sites and never once haven’t.
Please make the shipping cost available before requiring customers to fill in their info, not that it will affect me. I’ll be buying the floss from a dental outfit i found at Amazon.com
Great tip. Great Video. Great price. Want my info before I can determent final cost? Have a nice life.
Wow, that’s a lot of anger. I don’t think anyone is “guileless”… I think my shopping cart software sucks. That’s why I set up a new system that does NOT require info ahead of time, and actually calculates the real shipping cost (our current software requires flat rate shipping, which is typically not a bargain for something as small as dental floss).
Sorry for all the anger it caused, but I’m glad you were able to find the products you needed on Amazon and that the video was helpful.
It’d be really helpful if you went beyond how to hold floss and showed how one ought to actually use it. After years of flossing incorrectly, I was finally taught how it really ought to be done. I think a lot of people pop it in between their teeth, pop it back out, and move on to the next tooth without going below the gum line.
If you do decide to add a video (or there is one), I’d be most grateful for a link.
Thanks!
You’re right, and thanks for the reminder. I do believe I already wrote about it, but can’t remember anymore. Floss is best used to remove plaque from beneath the gum line. The floss should be used to gently scrape the plaque away from the each side of the tooth and below the gum line (don’t be afraid to floss under the gums… it shouldn’t hurt if you don’t go too far and if your gums are healthy).
I will try to do a video with good flossing techniques, as that’s much easier than writing it out.

Dr Marvin,
I was in on the ground floor with Dr. RG Jones (founder of POH). spent 40 years teaching each of my patients about floss – CC Bass – etc etc. please call me by land line at (918)2320957. I believe you’ll like to hear what I have to tell you!
I’ve been using POH dental floss for years. My teeth are tight together, so this thin, round floss really works for me, unlike the “tape” style so popular these days – those hurt my teeth and gums. I haven’t tried the micro thin floss yet, but it looks good.
Very easy to understand instructions. I never thought to floss *before* I brush. That’s a great tip!
